Spring Breakout returns for its third installment after receiving a great deal of fanfare over the past two years. The weekend gets going with six must-see matchups today and continues through Sunday evening.
As in previous years, all 30 Major League clubs will field teams of their best prospects at the showcase event. These rosters are once again packed with top prospects, with 54 members of the current Top 100 Prospects listand more than 500 of the 900 players who make up teams’ Top 30 Prospects lists. Fourteen No. 1 prospects are scheduled to participate, as are another 16 ranked No. 2 in their respective organizations.
All 16 games — the Brewers and Phillies will play twice because of the odd number of teams in the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues — will be streamed live and blackout-free on MLB’s digital platforms (MLB.com, MLB.TV and the MLB app) and partner platforms. Seven games will air live on MLB Network, with the other nine being shown on tape delay. The full schedule is here.
Here’s the complete schedule:
LIVE — Rays @ Mets (Watch free | Gameday)*
Looking for speed? No. 76 overall prospect Theo Gillen, who stole 36 bags in 73 Minor League games last year, leads the Rays against a Mets squad that’s highlighted by No. 97 prospect A.J. Ewing, who tallied 70 thefts while posting an .830 OPS over 124 Minor League games last year.
LIVE — Reds @ Giants (Watch free | Gameday)*
The Reds expect great things from MLB’s No. 4 catching prospect, Alfredo Duno, and 2025 No. 9 overall pick Steele Hall, and the Giants have sky-high hopes for the No. 1 prospect in this year’s international class, Luis Hernandez. At 17, the tooled-up shortstop will be the youngest player in Spring Breakout — and he’s facing pro competition for the first time.
Friday
4 p.m. ET — Royals @ Rangers (KC roster | TEX roster | Gameday)
Kansas City had two picks before the second round of last year’s Draft, and both selections are in position to get their first taste of pro competition at age 19 during Spring Breakout. OF/2B Sean Gamble, the 2025 23rd overall pick and the organization’s No. 5 prospect, brings a solid hit tool and above-average speed. SS/3B Josh Hammond, the 28th pick and No. 6 prospect, has some raw power and is also speedy. The Rangers’ roster boasts two-way player Josh Owens (TEX No. 6), who has promise in the box, at shortstop and on the mound.
5:10 p.m. ET — Mariners @ Brewers (SEA roster | MIL roster | Gameday)*
The Mariners have six Top 100 prospects on their Spring Breakout roster, which is more than any other team. Three of them – Colt Emerson (No. 9), Kade Anderson (No. 21) and Ryan Sloan (No. 33) – are in the top 50 of MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list. But don’t sleep on the Brewers, who have the top-ranked farm system in baseball. All five of their Top 100 prospects – Jesús Made (No. 3), Luis Peña (No. 26), Jett Williams (No. 51), Cooper Pratt (No. 64) and Brandon Sproat (No. 100) – are ready to go for Milwaukee in this one.
6:05 p.m. ET — Red Sox @ Orioles (BOS roster | BAL roster | Gameday)
Red Sox fans not only have a chance to see 2025 first-rounder Kyson Witherspoon for the first time – they can also get a good look at 11 of Boston’s top 13 prospects, led by No. 1 (MLB No. 31) Franklin Arias. The Orioles counter with a roster that includes MLB No. 93 prospect Nate George and Baltimore’s top two picks of last year’s Draft – No. 19 overall Ike Irish and No. 31 Wehiwa Aloy.
7:35 p.m. ET — Tigers @ Pirates (IT rustles | PIT roster | Gameday)*
This is about as exciting a matchup as you could ask for. Baseball’s No. 1 overall prospect – Konnor Griffin – leads a team made up of players from the third-ranked farm system against No. 10 overall Max Clark, who headlines a team representing the fifth-ranked farm system. This game also presents an opportunity to see Pirates 2025 1st-rounder (sixth overall) Seth Hernandez pitching as a pro for the first time.
*Game will air live on MLB Network
