South Euclid Theft: Credit Card Stolen at Gas Pump

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio

Theft: Mayfield Road

A man reported Jan. 9 that his credit card was stolen from GetGo the previous day after he left it in a card reader at the gas pumps.

He said that there had since been a fraudulent charge on it from the store for $35.

Surveillance video showed that a man tried to put his own credit card into the same reader shortly after the victim left it there. When he saw that there was a card in the reader, he proceeded to use it to pay for $35 worth of gas. He then took the card with him.

Officers were able to identify the suspect through his vehicle registration. They called the Twinsburg man, 30, who admitted that he was at GetGo but denied using the victim’s card.

When asked how he paid for gas, he said he would speak to his lawyer.

Theft charges were entered for the man’s arrest.

Assault: Avondale Road

A woman reported Jan. 12 that her son, 12, was choked and punched by another boy, 13, while leaving the bus from a school wrestling tournament two days earlier.

Detectives have requested surveillance video from the bus to review and determine if charges will be filed.

Impaired driving: Cedar Road

Officers responded Jan. 12 to a report of a man asleep at the wheel of his vehicle at the Mayflower condominiums.

They confirmed that he was sleeping in the running vehicle and found that he was highly intoxicated.

The man, 36, was subsequently arrested for physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated.

Theft: Mayfield Road

The owner of Krush Clothing reported Jan. 4 that a man stole a $385 jacket by placing it on himself and then putting his own jacket over it.

He said that he followed the man outside the store and during a brief struggle, the suspect dropped his car key and phone.

Officers located the suspect’s running vehicle in the parking lot and identified him through its registration. They called his mother, who said that she was in contact with him and would pick him up and bring him to the station turn himself in on theft charges.

When the Maple Heights man, 46, arrived, he claimed not to have stolen the jacket but said it could be found in the rear of the neighboring Giant Eagle.

Grand theft: Warrensville Center Road

A woman reported Jan. 4 that her vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of Milky Way Cleveland while she and her grandchildren were having lunch.

Responding officers spotted the vehicle in the area and tried to stop it but it fled at a high rate of speed.

Surveillance video showed that the vehicle, which was recovered by Cleveland police the next day, was stolen by two unknown males.

Disorderly conduct: Cedar Road

A Shell employee reported at 12:50 a.m. Jan. 10 that a man had been in the store for over two hours and was drinking beer in a bathroom.

Responding officers found the drunken man, 41, and identified him as a Youngstown resident and subsequently arrested him for disorderly conduct.

Disturbance: Mayfield Road

A man reported around 11:30 p.m. Jan. 10 that he was jumped at Bar Mayfield.

Responding officers found the man with minor scrapes and swelling on his face but he denied medical attention.

He said that he had been jumped by some women after he tried ordering drinks for them.

A bartender said that the man started the confrontation and punched one of the women, who had left before officers arrived.

The man’s caretaker subsequently took care of him. She said that he has schizophrenia and had been released from a psych ward a week earlier.
