All this month of October, the shop windows will be decorated with Rose in order to challenge passers -by and promote these actions. “Pink menus” will also be offered by restaurateurs, part of the profits to be donated to the fight against cancer.
Two steps and two races
“This week of actions for the benefit of the fight against cancer will start on Saturday October 11 with a 7 km walk in high soule (open to all, without registration and free participation), with a loop of Tardets in Lichans. Our partners, including the Cancer 64 League, the Miralutz association, the seamstresses of the heart and professionals will be present at the start and arrival on the place of Tardets to inform about the means of prevention and the care of existing supports in Soule, “explains Barbara Tucoo, for the municipality of Mauléon.
Another event on Friday October 17, at night at 7 p.m. on Place Jean-Lougarot in Mauléon, with a 5 km walk (mixed, non-timed) and two timed 10 km races including one solo and a duo relay (registration on the online site Pyrénées-Chrono).
For the walk open to all, registrations (€ 15, pink T-shirt provided) are made in the points of sale of tourist offices of the Basque Country or online on their website (children without registration). The amount of registrations will support health structures in their mission to promote breast cancer screening.
Partners will hold, from 5.30 p.m., information stands in order to raise awareness of the importance of screening and communicate on support care that exists in soule.
At 7:15 p.m., the Miralutz association will offer a warm-up to music on Place Jean-Lougarot before the runners and walkers rush into the Mauleonnais streets, equipped with lamps for this night walk.
The evening will continue in music with the Los Chuchos group. The UCA of Soule will hold a refreshment bar and will sell pastetx whose profits will be donated to the fight against cancer.
A great mobilization of souletins
Thanks to the strong mobilization of souletins, it was a total of more than € 21,000 that were collected during the first three editions and given to partners for the fight against cancer: Cancer 64 and Miralutz association.
As a reminder, the Miralutz association based since 2023 in Mauléon has accompanied sports people with cancer and their accompanying people sportingly to allow them to live the treatments and recover well. In addition, since November 2024, the Cancer 64 League has been offering Mauléon Town Hall for support and well-being in individual meetings (socio-aesthetic, psychological support, reflexology, etc.) for cancer patients and their caregivers.
Against breast cancer, there are means to act: from the age of 25, a palpation once a year by a healthcare professional and 50 to 74 years old, a mammography every 2 years.
