Sony Xperia Update: What’s New?

Company excelled Sony This year on many famous brands such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo, becoming one of the first companies to launch the Android 16 update, and the Xperia 1 VII came as the first phone from Sony to get the update last September, but the speed of the rollout was not promising for everyone.

Sony begins rolling out Android 16 update to Xperia phones

After waiting for about a month, Sony recently began issuing the Android 16 update for the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI phones. The following is a list of the phones that have received or will receive the update:

The update is usually rolled out in batches, so it may take several days for it to reach your device. To manually check for the latest update, you can go to Settings > System > Advanced > Software update.

Android 16 is a large update with a download size of between 1 and 2 GB, so it is recommended to ensure that there is sufficient storage space, connection to a stable Wi-Fi network, and charging the battery by at least 30% before starting the installation.

The update rollout is coming to an end

Sony phones eligible for the Android 16 update are limited to only four models: Xperia 1 VII, Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 10 VI, and Xperia 10 VII.

Three of them have already started receiving the update, while the Xperia 10 VII is expected to get the update by early November, bringing Sony to the end of the Android 16 rollout.

Sony indicates that all of the aforementioned devices were launched in 2024 or later, with a promise to provide at least three generations of operating system updates, compared to previously, where it provided only two updates. Thus, the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI will receive the Android 17 update, while the Xperia 1 VII and Xperia 10 VII will receive updates up to Android 19.
