Sony is expanding its turntable portfolio with two new Bluetooth models that are intended to make vinyl particularly convenient again. According to the Sony press release, the PS-LX3BT is aimed at to beginners and promises an “uncomplicated turntable suitable for everyday use”. The PS-LX5BT, on the other hand, is intended to appeal to more demanding vinyl fans. In addition, Sony is coupling the market launch with a discount campaign in its own online shop, which offers a discount on selected headphones and speakers when purchasing a record player.
The aim is to have uncomplicated operation
Basically, both devices rely on an integrated phono equalizer and wireless audio technology including aptX, aptX Adaptive and Hi-Res Wireless Audio, so that records can be listened to wirelessly via headphones or speakers.
Both the PS-LX3BT and the PS-LX5BT play records at 33⅓ and 45 revolutions per minute and are therefore designed for common 7 and 12 inch formats. According to Sony, both models offer fully automatic playback at the push of a button and can be connected in the classic way using an RCA cable or wirelessly via Bluetooth.
- The PS-LX3BT is intended to be quickly ready for use as an uncomplicated everyday device with an integrated phono equalizer and delivers a “warm, analog sound”, as Sony promises.
- The PS-LX5BT also relies on several adjustments – such as the circuit design – to reduce vibrations and “preserve the purity of the sound”.
The new turntables are now available via the Sony web store. For the PS-LX3BT the manufacturer offers a recommended retail price of 299 euros; the PS-LX5BT is valued at 399 euros. In the in-house web shop To celebrate the launch, Sony is also launching a combination promotion in which selected headphones and speakers are discounted by 25 percent.
