SoftBank Group’s founder, Masayoshi Son, is reportedly seeking a partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) to develop a trillion-dollar industrial complex in Arizona focused on robotics and artificial intelligence.

According to sources familiar with the plan, Son envisions a manufacturing hub similar to Shenzhen, China, aiming to revitalize high-tech manufacturing in the U.S. The proposed park could house production lines for AI-powered industrial robots.

SoftBank is reportedly interested in TSMC playing a significant role in the project,leveraging their expertise in manufacturing advanced AI chips for companies like Nvidia. TSMC already has plans to invest $165 billion in the U.S., including mass production at its first Arizona factory. however, it remains unclear what specific role Son envisions for TSMC, and a source familiar with the chipmaker’s perspective indicated that SoftBank’s project is separate from TSMC’s existing plans in Phoenix.
