[SPORTALKOREA] Reporter Park Yoon-seo = Son Heung-min was used in an absurd and illegal advertisement.
Britain’s ‘Focus Gaming News’ reported on the 28th (Korean time), “The British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) accepted a complaint regarding Son Heung-min-related posts posted on Midnight’s X (formerly Twitter) account.”
The media pointed out that “the content in question had a strong appeal to minors and violated gambling advertising regulations from the ASA.”
The problem originated from the video they posted. Tottenham Hotspur FC won the championship by beating Manchester United FC 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) final in May.
They used the scene of Son Heung-min cheering while holding the UEL trophy in his hand and inserted the phrase, “My brother started acting like this after winning 8.10 (about 15,000 won) with a 30 pence (about 1,000 won) 8-fold Aker bet (a combination bet that requires guessing all 8 games).”
ASA strongly condemned the illegal advertisement, saying, “The intention to promote the brand using malicious viral videos is clear. The content is also directly linked to gambling.”

The company refuted that it was not an advertisement for sales purposes but content that lightly dealt with issues in the soccer world, but it was not accepted.
The media pointed out that Son Heung-min is a person who can have a significant influence on youth under the age of 18. At the same time, disciplinary action was taken against the company that used Son Heung-min’s image without permission and the company was ordered to delete the video.
Accordingly, Midnight deleted the video pointed out by the Advertising Standards Board. In addition, it was confirmed that all videos uploaded to social networking services (SNS) were revised to comply with regulations.
