‘Captain’ Son Heung -min (33, Tottenham) was crying in the arms of his father, Son Woong -jung (63).
Tottenham won 1-0 in the 42nd minute of Brennan Johnson’s final against Manchester United (England) in the 2024-2025 Europa League (UEL) finals held at San Mammes Stadium in Bilbao, Spain on the 22nd.
Tottenham has reached the top of the major tournament in 17 years after winning the 2007-2008 League Cup. Son Heung -min also solved the championship thirst. Tottenham stayed in the league 17th place (38 points) this season. However, the UEL championship broke down deep sluggishness. Tottenham also won the European Champions League (UCL) ticket next season.
It was a meaningful moment for Son Heung -min. He won his first professional career championship. Son Heung -min, who was wearing a Tottenham uniform in 2015, has been a team ace for 10 years, but he has never won. But with this UEL championship, Tottenham had the first trophy in his life.
Son Heung -min also raised his emotions and poured tears of joy. Son Heung -min also approached the audience after winning and shared a hot hug with his father, Son Woong -jung. According to the British BBC, Son Heung -min said, “Today I have a Legend of Tottenham. There were a lot of players for 17 years, but no one has done it. It can be a legend for the club.”
Earlier, Son Heung -min lowered himself in an interview with the BBC, saying, “You can’t be called Tottenham Legend until you win.”
Son Heung -min won second place in the 2016-2017 season EPL during Tottenham and the European Champions League (UCL) runner -up in 2019. In the 2020-2021 Carabao Cup (League Cup), he lost to Manchester City and stayed in the runner -up. But this UEL championship has achieved a long dream.
