Bad weather returns, the atmospheric scenario changes

(TEMPOITALIA.IT) We have to wait a few more days of relative calm, then the situation will undergo a radical change. Between phases of intermittent sun and low clouds, theItalia is preparing for a new and marked worsening of weather conditions, already expected during this week. The atmospheric signal is unequivocal: one North Atlantic disturbance is approaching rapidly and will begin to affect the weather from Thursday 15 Januarytriggering the first effects on Nord-Ovest. It must be underlined that this is a very different system compared to those we have experienced recently. It is not fed directly by the arctic currents, the same ones that had pushed the snow to the plains around the Epiphany, especially affecting the Northeast. This time a cold but not extreme air mass comes into play, but sufficient to guarantee abundant rainfall. The result? We will see an increase in temperatures across the globe Bootwith values that will be more reminiscent of late autumn ones than fully winter ones.
Higher snow level, but intense precipitation
The rise in temperatures brings with it an inevitable consequence: the snow level will rise compared to recent events. The first rains will wet the Nord-Ovest already since Thursday 15 Januarybut bad weather will come into play in between Friday 16 January and the weekend, when an extensive and well-organised front will also hit the medium-high Tyrrhenian side. In this phase heavy and persistent rainfall is expected between Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia e Tuscany. We are talking about a truly significant water load. However, for the mountain areas, the most important news is another: the snow is back, the real one.
Alps: difficult weeks, now the turning point
The Alps they arrive at this appointment after a less than ideal period. In fact, there has been no significant snowfall since Christmas week. A few isolated episodes after New Year’s Eve affected almost exclusively the foreign sides of theAlpine Archleaving the Italian ones often downwind, dry and penalized by dry currents. Now the context changes drastically. The return of Atlantic disturbances on Mediterranean western reactivates the humid southern currents, the most favorable of all for bringing heavy snowfalls to the Alps Italian. It is a crucial step for restoring the snow cover.
Abundant snow between Friday 16th and Sunday 18th
The first significant snowfalls will already appear Friday 16 January in the Piedmont Alps, in Aosta Valley and on the Alta Lombardyinitially at altitudes higher than 1200 meters. Between Saturday 17 e Sunday 18 January the intensity of the phenomena will increase, with accumulations significantly increasing especially above 1000 meters. According to the most recent updates, up to half a meter (50 cm) of new snow may accumulate across the High Piedmont and the High Lombardyparticularly beyond the 1500 meterswhere the temperatures will be optimal for the consolidation of the snow cover. This is a fundamental contribution after weeks of water and snow deficit.
The areas affected by the phenomena
As well as in Piedmont, Lombardy and Valle d’Aosta. Snowfall is also expected in other key areas: Ligurian-Maritime Alps, Trentino-Alto Adige, Dolomites e Apennines Ligurian and Emilianwith snow levels generally ranging between 1000 e 1500 meters.
However, it appears much more difficult for the flakes to descend to lower altitudes, except for very localized episodes of snow mixed with rain on high hills between Aosta Valley, Piedmont ed central-western Ligurian hinterlanda possibility that is still uncertain and yet to be verified.
