Will Forte Reflects on the Challenge of Following Will Ferrell’s George W. Bush on SNL

Will Forte has admitted that following Will Ferrell‘s portrayal of George W.Bush on “SNL” was a daunting task.

During a conversation with fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum Amy Poehler on her “Good Hang” podcast, Forte, who joined the show in 2002 after Ferrell‘s departure, discussed the challenges of taking on the role of George W.Bush on “SNL.”

“It was a huge cast,” Forte said. “It was, like, 17 people, you’re trying to get you’re stuff on, you’re trying to get noticed. And then I got, somehow, the George Bush role.”

Forte explained that impressions weren’t his strength and that being cast as Bush “was a match not made in heaven.” He also noted that Ferrell‘s iconic impersonation set an impossibly high standard.
