The Smart Cities Global Startup Challenge, supported by the North Texas Innovation Alliance (NTXIA), will take place again in 2025 at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. This international pitch event aims to make startups easier to enter the US market by offering financing, pilot projects and direct access to city guides and F&-Teams. The initiative is supported by partners such as the cities of Frisco and McKinney, Plug and Play from Frisco and the Curiosity Lab in Georgia.

Jennifer Sanders, the managing director of the NTXIA, emphasized the importance of the event, which created an enormous international response last year. Last year’s winner, VisionCraft.ai, used the platform to look for possible uses in the USA, which underlines the value of the challenge for both companies and regions that want to advance smart city innovations.

This year’s challenge focuses on four central problem areas that shape the future of cities: transport, public security, connectivity and infrastructure. Startups must position your solutions in one of these areas and be ready to test them in real smart city environments. The winners not only receive financial support, but also the opportunity to network with leading innovation actors in North Texas.

Gloria Salinas from Frisco Economic Development Corporation emphasizes that Frisco with its high density at innovation centers and tech companies is an ideal location for such initiatives. The city has already carried out numerous smart city pilot projects, including the use of AI for traffic control. The Challenge winners receive extensive support to establish their technologies in the United States.
