Slovakia Blocks Russia Sanctions: 18th Package Stalled

On Friday at the level of the Ambassadors of the Member States at the European Union (Coreper), the Slovak Republic re -blocked the adoption of 18 sanctions against Russia. The Slovak government, led by Prime Minister Robert Fico, has announced several times that it would not support the upcoming penalty package unless it receives sufficient guarantees from the European Commission (EC) in connection with the repawereu initiative. “The Slovak Republic appreciated working negotiations with representatives of the European Commission on the topic of energy and repawereu, which aimed to contribute to a better understanding of the reservation and requirements of the Slovak Republic as the most affected Member State,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic said in a statement for TASR.

Slovakia continues in opinion

A group of EC experts from a high -level working group in an effort to deal with the issue arrived in Slovakia this week.
