BeritaNasional.com – Lack of sleep and stress can trigger weight gain in adults. This is according to the Deputy Chairman of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board Dr. Rocio Medina Badiano.
“Lack of sleep can cause weight gain by increasing the desire of eating and lowering energy levels. Chronic stress also has a negative impact on mental and physical well -being so it is more difficult to maintain a healthy weight,” Rocio said.
Stress can affect hormones hungry, reduce motivation to remain active, while interfere with sleep quality. The condition eventually increased the risk of weight gain and disease related to obesity.
Therefore, balanced nutrition must be a health foundation. Consumption of whole foods with protein, iron, as well as vegetables and various colors is needed to support energy, metabolism, and immunity.
“Enough hydration is also very important, at least eight glasses of water per day plus the intake of fruits and vegetables rich in water,” Rocio said.
In addition, routine physical activity of at least 150 minutes per week is recommended to maintain cardiovascular fitness, metabolism, and bone health. Exercise is also proven to improve sleep quality and reduce the possibility of sleep disorders, especially in postmenopausal women.
Good sleep habits, such as maintaining consistent sleep schedules, avoiding the screen before resting, and creating a quiet sleep environment, very influential on physical recovery and mood regulation.
“Small changes made consistently, both in eating, hydration, sports, and sleep, can have a big impact on the welfare of women and the community at large,” Rocio said.
Based on the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) 2023 conducted by the Ministry of Health, the prevalence of overweight and obesity reached 37.8 percent.
