A Summer Theatre Staple Reimagined
For generations,Skroderdiena in Silmači
has been synonymous with Latvian summer. Beyond the perennial staging at the Latvian National Theater, numerous directors have embraced this beloved play, each assembling unique casts to bring Blaumanis’ vision to life. this year is no exception, with Gundars Silakaktiņš presenting his interpretation of this iconic work.
Premiere at Cesis Castle park Stage
The premiere of Silakaktiņš’ new production is eagerly anticipated for June 15th at the picturesque Cesis Castle Park Stage. Joining Silakaktiņš in this endeavor are costume designer Jurate Silakaktiņa and stage designer Ivars Noviks, promising a visually stunning and creatively rich experience.

Rudolfs Blaumanis’ Skroderdiena Silmačos is more then just a Latvian theatrical phenomenon; it’s a play deeply ingrained in the cultural consciousness of every Latvian viewer. This production is both a joy and a challenge – to authentically portray the legendary oven scene, the spirited granny battles, the intertwined weddings, the love, the humor, and the very essence of what it means to be Latvian. It demands a nuanced and immediate interpretation.
An All-star Cast Assembled
Silakaktiņš has assembled a remarkable ensemble cast, drawing talent from nearly every major Latvian theater. Anna Klevere, a celebrated actress from the Latvian National Theater, will embody the role of Antonia. Lauris Subatnieks, a prominent figure from the Daile Theater, will take on the role of Daile. The Valmiera Theater contributes Eduards Johansons and elina Hanzena, who will portray Alex and Elina, respectively. Rounding out the cast are Uga Gundars (Karlen), Alice Danovska (Ieviņa), Emil Kivlenieks (Joske), Sandis Runge (Rūdis), Samira Adgezalova (Zara), Aldis Siliņš (Abram), Agnese Zeltina (Bebene), and Sanda Dejus (Pindacītis/Pindaks).
