Škoda has unveiled its Vision O concept, signaling the brand’s intentions to enter the electric estate market. The vehicle, expected to launch no earlier than 2028, showcases a blend of innovative design and lasting materials.

The Vision O boasts the following dimensions:

  • Length: 4,850 mm
  • Width: 2,000 mm
  • Height: 1,500 mm
  • Luggage Capacity: 650 l

The exterior paint features a pearl effect, shifting between blue and beige depending on the light’s angle. Headlights are horizontally split, while the rear lights are T-shaped. The car is equipped with autonomous driving capabilities and corresponding alert systems.

Not Replacing the Octavia

While technical specifications remain undisclosed, the production model will utilize Volkswagen’s forthcoming SSP (SSP Systems Platform), succeeding the current MEB platform used by the ENYAQ and ELROQ.The Vision O, with its 4,850 mm length and extended wheelbase, falls dimensionally between the Octavia and Superb. Škoda assures that neither model is in danger of immediate replacement. The electric estate is projected to arrive in 2028 at the earliest.

Despite the concept’s name hinting at a potential electric Octavia successor, the “O” in Vision O apparently represents the car’s lifecycle, from production and usage to recycling and reuse.

New Materials Abound

Škoda prioritized the interior design, developing the concept from the inside out, focusing on the occupants’ experience before the exterior aesthetics. The seats feature unique, organically shaped head restraints made from Ultrasint, a flexible 3D-printed material.

The interior was paramount when designing the car and Škoda emphasizes that the concept was created from the inside out.

The majority of the interior is upholstered in Ultrasede fabric, with 65% of its composition derived from plant-based sources. Recycled leather from the carrier is used for the flooring. Magnets on the backrests allow rear passengers to attach smartphones, while also providing wireless charging.

Bio-Adaptive Lighting adjusts the ambient lighting to mimic natural light cycles, aiming to promote a balanced biorhythm for passengers.

Meter-Wide Screen

A screen spanning over 1.2 meters is positioned just below the windshield, across the entire dashboard width, similar to the BMW IX3. Škoda calls this the Horizon Display, emphasizing its ability to improve driver focus by placing essential details within the driver’s field of vision, negating the need for a customary screen or head-up display.

The central screen is vertically oriented, reminiscent of the Vision 7S concept from 2022.

Škoda aims to move away from solely relying on touch controls. The center console features a rotary dial for menu navigation, along with physical buttons for adjusting air conditioning, temperature, and fan speed. Two smartphone pads are also integrated.

The 650-liter trunk can be expanded to 1700 liters by folding down the rear seats. It includes practical features like portable Bluetooth speakers and an integrated refrigerator.

The electric estate concept serves as an interim preview while awaiting the arrival of two new Škoda production models: the EPIQ, a small electric crossover, and a large seven-seat SUV positioned above the ENYAQ.
