Škoda Kodiaq Recall: 50,000 Vehicles Affected

by drbyos

The Czech car manufacturer has announced a recall for the latest generation Škoda Kodiaq model. A total of 49,766 vehicles are being recalled worldwide due to a potential problem with the side airbags.

It is usual that when talking about airbag for recalls, mention is made of the Takata scandal, which affected millions of cars worldwide in recent years. But in this case, the problem is not in the gas generator, but in the design of the front seats. According to the manufacturer’s explanation, the seat frame may have a sharp edge that may damage the seat cover during a side impact when the airbag deploys. If an airbag ruptures or does not deploy properly, the driver and front passenger may be less protected in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

The recall applies to cars manufactured between August 21, 2024 and December 8, 2025. In Germany, it is reported that 12,311 car owners need to come in for service. To date, there are no known cases of accidents or injuries related to this defect.

Fixing the problem is relatively easy. In the service, a special protective material is attached to the frame of both front seats, which prevents possible friction and protects the cushion from damage. The work takes about two hours.
