Škoda Enyaq Refresh: A Deep Dive into the Upgrades and Performance

By Archynetys News Team

Reimagining the Electric SUV: Škoda Enyaq’s Mid-Cycle Enhancement

The Škoda Enyaq, a significant player in the electric vehicle (EV) market, is receiving a ample refresh aimed at solidifying its position. Last year, the enyaq ranked as the second best-selling EV in Germany and the fourth across Europe, with nearly 70,000 units sold. This updated model seeks to build on that success with a blend of aesthetic and technological improvements.

Exterior Conversion: Embracing a Modern Aesthetic

The updated Enyaq adopts a bolder exterior, drawing inspiration from the Elroq concept. Eschewing the conventional grille-like design, the new model features a “tech-deck face”—a sleek, glossy black mask accentuated by contouring LED daytime running lights. The main beams, now positioned lower in the bumper, incorporate optional Matrix LED technology with 36 individual segments for enhanced visibility. This design shift aligns the Enyaq with a more contemporary EV aesthetic, moving away from mimicking internal combustion engine vehicles.

A potentially divisive design element is the optional two-tone paint scheme, available on the standard hatchback version (but not on the coupe or SportLine trims). This involves contrasting dark chrome accents along the lower doors and bumpers, which is particularly striking when paired with the new Olibo green or a vibrant red paint finish. This customization option allows drivers to personalize their Enyaq and make a statement on the road.

Interior Refinements: Subtle Enhancements for a Premium Feel

Inside, the changes are more subtle. Škoda has removed the winged arrow logo from the steering wheel, replacing it with a stylized inscription. While the overall interior layout remains largely unchanged due to ongoing incremental improvements over the past four years, the updated Enyaq features a greater use of recycled materials and eliminates glossy chrome elements.Thes changes reflect a growing emphasis on sustainability and a more refined cabin environment.

Driving dynamics: A Agreeable and Capable EV Experience

During test drives around Prague and the Lipno reservoir, the Enyaq demonstrated its well-rounded driving characteristics. the ride remains comfortable yet controlled, nonetheless of whether the vehicle is equipped with optional adaptive dampers. this balance of comfort and handling makes the Enyaq a compelling choice for both city driving and longer journeys.

Technical Upgrades: Enhanced Performance and Efficiency

While the core engineering remains consistent with Škoda’s continuous improvement approach, several key technical upgrades enhance the Enyaq’s performance. The multimedia system has been updated for more intuitive controls and improved stability. The base model is now designated the enyaq 60, featuring a larger 59 kWh battery pack and a more powerful 150 kW rear motor, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. However, these improvements come at a cost, with the starting price now at least 1.015 million crowns.

The Enyaq 60 offers a range of 434 km in the hatchback version and 443 km in the coupe variant. Despite having the lowest power output, it benefits from being the lightest of the three models, weighing approximately 140 pounds less than the Enyaq 85 and 230 pounds less than the Enyaq 85x. Surprisingly, the Enyaq 60 also boasts a faster charging rate of up to 165 kW,compared to the Enyaq 85’s 135 kW. The Enyaq 85x, with its advanced battery chemistry, can charge at up to 175 kW.

Both the Enyaq 85 and 85x variants utilize a 77 kWh battery pack and deliver 210 kW of power. The rear-wheel-drive Enyaq 85 accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive 85x achieves the same feat in just 6.6 seconds. The range for these models is 565 km and 550 km, respectively. The top-of-the-line RS version boasts 250 kW of power and accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, offering a range of 547 km.

Market Impact and Competition

The refreshed Škoda Enyaq enters a competitive EV market, facing rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6. According to recent data, global EV sales continue to rise, with projections indicating a significant increase in market share over the next few years. The Enyaq’s updates aim to maintain its appeal and attract new customers in this rapidly evolving landscape.

Conclusion: A Refined and Relevant Electric SUV

With its updated design, enhanced technology, and improved performance, the refreshed Škoda Enyaq is well-positioned to continue its success in the EV market. The combination of practicality, comfort, and a growing charging infrastructure makes the Enyaq a compelling choice for consumers looking to make the switch to electric vehicles. As the EV market continues to expand, the Enyaq’s enhancements ensure it remains a relevant and competitive option.

Škoda Enyaq Refresh: Efficiency, Range, and Bi-Directional Charging

Enhanced Performance and Range

Škoda has unveiled a refreshed version of its popular Enyaq electric SUV, promising improved efficiency and extended range. the updated models, including both the hatchback and coupé versions, boast significant enhancements, particularly in their aerodynamic profiles and battery management systems. The Enyaq 85 and 85x models now offer increased ranges of 581 km and 544 km for the hatchback, and 591 km and 552 km for the coupé, respectively. these figures represent a notable step forward in addressing range anxiety, a common concern among potential EV buyers.

These improvements are largely attributed to optimized aerodynamics. the hatchback now boasts a drag coefficient of 0.245, while the coupé achieves an even more impressive 0.225. Subtle yet effective design tweaks, such as a more rounded front fascia,a redesigned hood, and modified bumpers and wheels, contribute to these aerodynamic gains.

Real-World Efficiency: A Prague to Lipno Test drive

To assess the real-world performance of the updated Enyaq, our team conducted a test drive from Prague Airport to Lipno, a distance of 222 kilometers, incorporating both highway and city driving. The test vehicle was an enyaq 85 Coupé. Despite Škoda’s official consumption figures of 14.7 to 15.6 kWh/100 km, our test yielded an average consumption of 17.7 kWh/100 km. This was achieved while adhering to posted speed limits in urban areas and on highways (up to 120 km/h). Even with this slightly higher consumption, a range of over 430 kilometers on a single charge remains achievable.

Considering the Enyaq’s classification as a nearly 2.2-ton SUV,this level of efficiency is commendable. In practical terms, the Enyaq outperforms similarly priced and sized competitors like the Peugeot e-3008 and offers a compelling option to vehicles like the Ford Capri in terms of cost-effectiveness and technology.

During a return journey on the same route, we tested the Enyaq Coupé 85x, focusing on its dynamic and sporty capabilities. Even under these more demanding driving conditions, the energy consumption remained at a reasonable 21 kWh/100 km, a figure that some competitors struggle to match even under normal driving conditions.

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Capabilities

A significant innovation introduced with the Enyaq refresh is the integration of Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology. This allows the Enyaq to not only draw power from the grid but also to supply energy back to the grid or to power a home. To facilitate this bi-directional energy flow, a specialized two-way wallbox from Škoda is required.

Škoda claims that the Enyaq’s battery can supply power to an average household for several days during a power outage. Importantly, the system is designed to prevent complete battery depletion, ensuring that the vehicle remains usable for transportation even after serving as a backup power source. Furthermore, homeowners can potentially earn revenue by participating in grid balancing programs, leveraging their electric car battery to support the stability of the electrical network.

The ability to power the car from the battery or send energy back to the net…the electric car battery can even earn the owners.
