Škoda 100: Modern Sedan Concept & Czech Design

by Archynetys Economy Desk

The study of the new sedan is inspired by the classics.

The Škoda designer created a modern vision of the sedan inspired by the iconic model from the 1970s, using the latest design language of the Czech brand – the so-called Modern Solid. Everyone can judge the result for themselves, but in our opinion it is a successful concept that we like to see. Of course, this is just a study.

The Škoda 100/110, produced in the years 1969–1977, was the first model of the Czech brand to surpass the million production mark. At the time, it was considered an affordable family car, although owning one’s own vehicle was not common. It retained the rear-engine and rear-wheel drive concept known from its predecessor, the 1000 MB model.

The popular sedan inspired Škoda designer Martin Paclt to create his current interpretation – the vision of a limousine. In addition, this vehicle was part of his family during his childhood, which gave the project a personal dimension. “I wanted to work with a car that people know well and that many have owned. The Škoda 100 appealed to me with its clean, timeless lines that resonate strongly with the current Modern Solid design direction,” said Paclt.

The new vision of the Škoda 100 is based on the proportions of the current Superb, but the design has been deliberately enlarged to make it appear more prestigious. The author emphasizes that it is not a retro style, but a completely new interpretation of a classic. They focused on preserving the spirit of the original, emphasizing characteristic proportions and lines. They added modern elements, such as four-part headlights, a molding on the hood or light strips in the front and back, which gave the car a futuristic look.

One of the most striking elements is the rear part of the body. The designers gave up the rear window, which made it possible to create a bold form. It is a tribute to the original Škoda 100, where the front and rear windows were almost identical in shape. In place of the rear window, there is now an air intake for the cooling system.

As in the original, the concept model has an engine in the rear, but this time it is a fully electric drive. This configuration made it possible to move the front axle as far forward as possible, giving the body more dynamic proportions. There is a main luggage compartment at the front, and another storage compartment at the back above the electric motor.
