The exhibition ‘S(k)in, acid on the soul’ by Lucca-based photographer Marino Da Costa was inaugurated yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) in the exhibition space of the Palazzo Comunale, which displays particularly touching, strong, sometimes brutal black and white images taken during a reportage in India. Scarred women, violated women, women with faces ruined by acid.
In addition to the author, the mayor Giordano Del Chiaro, the councilor for equal opportunities, Ilaria Carmassi, the president of the Equal Opportunities Commission Nicole Benetazzo together with some members of the commission and the city councilors, Gigliola Biagini, Laura Lionetti, Marianna Modestino, Michela Pisani, took part in the ribbon cutting.
“The exhibition displays touching and powerful images that testify to unprecedented violence against women, but also tell of women who found the strength to get up after the violence – say the equal opportunities councilor, Ilaria Carmassi and the president of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Nicole Benetazzo -. Faced with gender violence, which unfortunately shows no sign of stopping, it is extremely important to keep the spotlight on this phenomenon and raise awareness among citizens, educate respect and build a community that leaves no woman alone. We thank the author of the exhibition for making his works available.”
The exhibition will remain open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm until December 12th.
