Norwegian authorities are considering deporting a Singaporean couple who are suspected of illegally operating a drone over Oslo. The incident has prompted increased vigilance across Europe amid a rise in drone-related incidents.

The couple was apprehended on September 22 after a drone was spotted flying over oslo’s fortress and opera house, violating the city’s ban on drone flights in the capital’s center. The incident occurred hours before drone sightings caused shutdowns at both Oslo and Copenhagen airports.

Police identified the pair as Singaporean tourists in their 50s and 60s. according too Norwegian prosecutor Andre Kvistad Alme, “Since the two detained individuals are foreign nationals, it will be relevant to initiate a case for deportation or expulsion.”

“The case is at an early stage but at this point we have no reason to suspect that this incident is connected to the drone sightings at Oslo or Copenhagen airports,” Mr. alme stated. He added, “This matter will however be subject to further investigation including interrogations and technical examinations of the drone.”

Heightened drone activity has led some European nations to accuse Russia of engaging in hybrid operations against countries that support Ukraine.
