Singapore Airlines Boosts Seattle Flights for Enhanced Capacity and Demand Fulfillment
From late May 2025, Singapore Airlines will introduce a fifth weekly non-stop flight to Seattle, increasing capacity by 25%. This expansion marks the fulfillment of a long-awaited pre-COVID plan and aligns with the route’s strong performance post-pandemic.
A Journey through Time: The Seattle Route
To understand this significant move, it’s worth revisiting the timeline. Six years ago, in November 2018, Singapore Airlines announced plans for non-stop flights between Changi and Seattle, a hub for the tech industry in the Pacific Northwest.
The inaugural flights began in September 2019 with three weekly trips, quickly escalating to four. Just one month later, in October 2019, they added a fifth weekly flight every Monday, achieving load factors exceeding 95% in some months.
Impact of COVID-19
The pandemic abruptly halted the growth of the route, suspending operations in March 2020. Prior to the virus, Singapore Airlines briefly operated five daily flights, making Seattle one of its shortest-lived passenger routes at the time.
Recovery and Resurgence
Flights regained momentum on December 2, 2021, as part of a Singapore-Vancouver-Seattle-Vancouver-Singapore routing. By June 2, 2022, Seattle flights resumed as standalone non-stop services, operating three times weekly.
In June 2024, frequency increased to four weekly flights, marking continued growth. On May 30, 2025, the airline will introduce a fifth weekly flight, returning to its peak pre-COVID plan.
