Simpson College announced it has been accepted into the Iowa NASA Space Grant Consortiumwhich will expand opportunities for students and faculty to engage in NASA-aligned research, education and outreach. Consortium membership grants access to project funding, curriculum development support and internship placements at NASA and partner laboratories nationwide. The announcement follows a campus visit by consortium director Sara Nelson, who met with faculty and leadership to discuss collaboration and observe a space biology project led by associate professor Aswati Subramanian. Current research by Simpson biochemistry majors explores how single-cell organisms respond to simulated microgravity and hypergravity conditions, part of a broader initiative to advance STEM learning and research at the college.
