The Geneva owner of a female boxer is angry: his female dog acquired in a Vaudois breeding in 2022 has a serious hereditary disease. Three years after its acquisition, it suffers from grade 2. Speeds of grade 2. According to the “Tribune de Genève”, the affection stifles the spine. The catch: The father of the animal suffers from the same disease, but from grade 3, an evil which had been diagnosed to him in 2019. The breeder knew it, but had not informed the master who today protested.
To justify himself, he indicated that only animals with grade 4 spondylosis are excluded from reproduction, according to the regulation of the Swiss Boxer Club. What several laws contradict. The Federal Office for Veterinary Affairs (OSAV) has thus indicated to the Geneva daily that “anyone wishing to raise animals likely to be carrying hereditary diseases must prevent the reproduction of sick descendants”. The OSV adds that the breeder should have in all cases informed in writing the buyer of the descendants – who is thinking of filing a complaint.
According to animal protection associations questioned by the “Tribune de Genève”, this type of problem is common in Switzerland, and offenses are generally unpunished.
