Details of the incident
The village of Al-Mahamid in the Edfu center in Aswan Governorate witnessed an incident of an attempt to demolish a shrine known as the shrine of Sheikh Uwais, at the hands of a young man who did so while repeating the Almighty’s saying: “And say, ‘The truth has come and falsehood has perished. Indeed, falsehood has perished.’”
The people of the region explained to “Youm7” that the shrine is said to belong to one of the people who know God, Uwais Al-Qarni, about whom the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, told him, and he told his story to our master Omar bin Al-Khattab, and the shrine is considered a sign of his passing through this place.
The residents indicated that the young man’s goal was to demolish the superstitious practices related to blessing and wiping the walls of the shrine, which were carried out by some women according to false religious beliefs.
Security procedures
For its part, the security services in the Aswan Security Directorate are intensifying their search for the young man responsible for the incident, and the necessary legal measures are scheduled to be taken regarding what happened.
