Shopping Discounts: Don’t Miss Out!

by Archynetys Economy Desk

A significant change has been made in loyalty card applications. The new principle decision published by KVKK came into force after being published in the Official Gazette dated February 28. Accordingly, a limitation has been placed on the practice of earning discounts or points only by declaring the phone number for purchases.

With the new regulation, businesses will have to verify that the phone number given by the customer actually belongs to them.

THE TRANSACTION PERIOD WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S NUMBER IS ENDING

In the investigations carried out by the Board, it was determined that phone numbers belonging to different people could be used during shopping and this situation poses a serious risk in terms of data security. It was determined that unannounced invoices could be issued using someone else’s phone number and incorrect data could be processed.

Considering that this situation creates a weakness in terms of protection of personal data, a new principle decision was published.

SMS AUTHENTICATION AND QR CODE REQUIREMENT

According to the new application, just saying your phone number or card number will no longer be enough. Businesses will establish additional verification mechanisms.

In this context:

-A verification code will be sent to the phone number via SMS,

-Or customers will be able to make transactions by showing a QR code via the mobile application.

-Thus, it will be confirmed that the real owner of the phone number is making transactions.

BUSINESSES GIVEN 6 MONTHS

After the decision was published in the Official Gazette, businesses were given a 6-month adaptation period to complete the technical and administrative regulations. In this process, companies will need to adapt their infrastructure to the new system.
