Fans of ninja action games have a lot to look forward to in 2025. Following the successful revival of the 2D Ninja gaiden series,Lizardcube presents Shinobi: Art of Vengeance,a modern reimagining of Sega’s iconic franchise.
A Strong Start for Sega’s Revival Initiative
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance marks the first release in Sega’s enterprising project to revitalize its classic IP for today’s gamers. Lizardcube, known for their remarkable work on titles like Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap and Streets of Rage 4, brings their signature artistic flair and action-game expertise to the Shinobi universe.
Arcade Action Meets Metroidvania
Lizardcube’s vision blends arcade-style action with light Metroidvania elements. In Shinobi: art of Vengeance, Joe Musashi embarks on a quest for revenge against the ENE Corp and Lord Ruse after his village is destroyed. Early levels offer classic side-scrolling action, while later stages introduce maze-like environments that demand skillful platforming and ability usage.

Mastering the art of the Ninja
joe’s abilities constantly evolve throughout Art of Vengeance. He starts with basic katana attacks, throwing daggers, and agile movements. As he progresses, Joe learns powerful ninpo (special attacks) and ninjutsu (screen-clearing super moves). New skills can be unlocked by finding them within levels or purchasing them from a magical shop.
