Shaboozey has responded to a moment between himself and Megan Moroney that gained traction online following the recent American Music Awards.

The interaction occurred on Monday, May 26, during the awards ceremony. The two artists were presenting the award for Favorite Country Duo Or group when a comment made by Moroney prompted a noticeable reaction from Shaboozey.

“Country music has been an important part of AMA history. The very frist year of this show, the award for Favourite Male Country Artist went to the great Charlie Pride,” Shaboozey stated.

Moroney added, “That same year, Favourite Female Artist went to Lynn Anderson, and this award went to the Carter family, who basically invented country music.”

Shaboozey then gave a rapid look, paused, and laughed before announcing the nominees. The moment quickly circulated online, becoming a notable talking point of the night.

shaboozey’s Response

The Carter Family, known as “the first family of country music” by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, gained popularity in the ’20s, ’30s, and ’40s with hits like ‘Keep on the Sunny Side’ and ‘Wildwood Flower’.

Shaboozey addressed the on-stage moment in a series of posts on X/Twitter.

“Google: Lesley Riddle, Steve Tartar, Harry Gay, Defoe Bailey, and the Carter Family…” he wrote, followed by: “When you uncover the true history of country music, you find a story so powerful that it cannot be erased…”

He further stated: “The real history of country music is about people coming together despite their differences, and embracing and celebrating the things that make us alike.”

When you uncover the true history of country music, you find a story so powerful that it cannot be erased…

Speculation on the Reaction

The exact reason for Shaboozey’s reaction has been debated. The Tennessean suggested it might relate to the genre’s origins tracing back to black Africans brought to the Americas as enslaved people.

Alternatively, deadline proposed a misunderstanding, with Shaboozey possibly interpreting Moroney’s comments as praise for Beyoncé and her ‘cowboy Carter’ album.

Beyoncé’s 2024 country album has garnered multiple awards, and her recent live shows have featured appearances from her daughters, perhaps leading Shaboozey to believe the comments referenced the ‘Texas Hold ’em’ singer.
