Seoul’s Han River Parks are transforming into vibrant hubs of activity this spring, offering a diverse range of programs designed to engage residents and visitors alike.Kicking off the season is the ‘2025 Han River Park’ festival, a festivity of culture, recreation, and community spirit.
Literary Escapes and Family Fun: Reading by the River
From May through june, select Han River Parks—Yeouido, Ichon, Jamwon, and Gwangnaru—will host ‘Reading Han River Park’ every Saturday. This initiative creates open-air libraries boasting approximately 7,500 books, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in literature amidst the scenic beauty of the river. To cater to families, dedicated children’s play zones, board game areas, and picturesque photo opportunities are also available.
Competitive Spirit: The 2025 Han River Jenga Tournament
Building on the success of last year’s event,the ‘2025 Han River Jenga Tournament’ promises to be a highlight of the festival. The competition unfolds across several weeks and locations:
- Qualifiers: Jamwon Han River Park (May 10th), Ichon Han River Park (May 17th), and Gwangnaru Han River Park (May 24th).Each qualifier will feature 32 teams.
- Gwangnaru Zenga: The winner of the Gwangnaru qualifier automatically advances to the finals.
- Grand Finale: The ultimate showdown will take place on May 31st at the Yeouido Han River Park Multi Plaza, pitting the strongest Jenga players against each other.
Jenga, a game of skill and precision, has seen a surge in popularity globally, with tournaments attracting participants of all ages and backgrounds. This event taps into that widespread appeal, offering a unique and engaging experience for both competitors and spectators.
Unique Experiences: Dance and Wellness by the Water
Beyond the Jenga tournament,the Han River Park festival offers a variety of unique activities:
- Kanggu Shingo Dance Dance: On May 10th,Gwangnaru Han River Park will host a special dance program featuring Kanggu jump shoes. Fifty participants will have the chance to dance alongside a exhibition by Choi Min-kyung.
- Sunset Family Yoga: On May 24th, Ichon Han river Park will host ‘Sunset Family Yoga’ from 6 PM. This one-hour session is designed to promote family bonding and well-being through shared breathing and movement. Yoga’s popularity continues to rise, with studies showing it’s positive impact on stress reduction and overall health.
Participation Details
Participation in all programs is on a first-come, first-served basis and requires pre-application. Interested citizens can apply through the official website between May 14th and May 21st. given the popularity of outdoor activities and community events, early registration is highly recommended.
