Senegal was reappointed as chair of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP), following the 426th meeting held on February 3 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, according to a UN press release dated February 4, 2026.

Unanimously, Member States renewed their confidence in Senegal by electing Ambassador Coly Seck, Permanent Representative of Senegal to the UN, to lead the work of the Committee for the year 2026. This renewal reflects recognition of the constant role played by Dakar in defending the Palestinian cause within multilateral bodies.

Present at the opening of the session, UN Secretary-General António Guterres recalled the urgency of realizing the rights of the Palestinian people, in particular the right to self-determination. He reaffirmed that the two-state solution remains, according to the United Nations, the only credible option for achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

Speaking, Coly Seck called for sustained international mobilization in the face of continued violence and the seriousness of the humanitarian situation. “Peace in Palestine is too serious an issue to give up,” he said, emphasizing the collective responsibility of the international community.

During this same session, the Committee adopted its work program for 2026 and approved the accession of Chile, thus expanding its membership and strengthening its dynamic of action in favor of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
