Senegal Disappointment: Reactions & Analysis

by Archynetys News Desk

On the occasion of the installation of the National Executive Secretariat of the Alliance for the Republic (APR), this Thursday, November 6, 2025, former President Macky Sall criticized the regime in place. In a speech given by Me Sidiki Kaba, the founder of the APR affirms that “the Senegalese are disappointed” with the new power, which he accuses of undermining democratic freedoms and the achievements won “hard-fought” by the people.

“We are living in a new time dominated by the advent of a new type of power never before experienced in Senegal beyond its addiction to destructive violence and its appetite for denial of the values of the rule of law and the principles of the Republic. The new power has disappointed the majority of our compatriots,” denounced the former head of state.

Macky Sall believes that the current authorities are “attacking democratic and basic freedoms” and “trampling on the progress” obtained over the decades. In his eyes, “the Republic is slipping away” and the Senegalese democratic model, once “admired throughout the world”, is crumbling under the leadership of “proponents of a party-state”.

The leader of the APR said he noted, with “dismay” and “affliction”, a multiplication of “slippages” and “drifts of all kinds by the new regime”.

Finally, he warns that the legacy he says he has left to the country cannot be called into question by “amateurism” or “revanchist hatred” leading, according to him, to “paralysis” and “regression in all areas”.
