Secuoya Studios Expands into Iceland with Act4 Partnership

The Spanish studio aims to increase its non-Spanish language content through international collaborations.

Spain’s Secuoya Studios is furthering its global reach with a new first-look agreement with Act4, an Icelandic production company. Act4 boasts a team of prominent creatives, including “True Detective” actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and “As long as we live” producer Hörður Rúnarsson.

This deal marks the beginning of a relationship between the Spanish and Icelandic television industries. It aligns with Secuoya Studios’ objective to dedicate 30% of its content to languages other than Spanish by 2027. The Madrid-based studio, known for “Shades” and “Arcadia,” has recently established similar partnerships with BlackBox Multimedia in the U.K. and with Sydney Gallonde, the French producer behind Harlan Coben’s accomplished series “No Second Chance” and “Just One Look.”

Iceland has become an appealing location for international co-productions, supported by tax rebates capped at 35% and its reputation as a creative center with diverse natural landscapes. Act4, led by Jónas Margeir Ingólfsson and Birkir Blær Ingólfsson (“The Minister 1 & 2”), has already produced the series “Reykjavik Fusion” and is currently working on “Death of a Horse.”
