A man was shot dead after allegedly trying to break into the security perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, the residence of United States President Donald Trump, in West Palm Beach, Florida, this Sunday.

According to the United States Secret Service, the suspect, described as a young man in his 20s, was shot by federal agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office after an unauthorized entry into the secured area.

The incident occurred around 1:30 am on Sunday morning. Trump is currently in Washington and was not at the property, which is approximately 5,800 square meters.

In a statement published on the social network X, the Secret Service stated:

“On February 22, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a man in his 20s was shot by U.S. Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy following an unauthorized entry into the secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago.”

The suspect, a native of North Carolina, had been reported missing by his family days before the incident. According to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, investigators believe he left the state heading south and obtained a shotgun along the way. The gun box was found in the vehicle he was driving.

According to authorities, the man managed to pass through the north gate of Mar-a-Lago just as another car was leaving the property and was quickly approached by Secret Service agents. Armed, he was confronted by agents and died after being shot.

The suspect’s name has not been released at this time. The detailed circumstances of the episode have not yet been clarified by authorities.
