SEATTLE (AP) — Authorities ordered immediate evacuations Monday in three southern Seattle suburbs after a levee broke following a week of heavy rain.
The evacuation order for King County in Washington state covered homes and businesses east of the Green River in parts of Kent, Auburn and Tukwila.
For its part, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning covering almost 47,000 people.
“Conditions are dangerous and access routes could be lost at any time,” the weather service warned in a post on the X social network.
The levee breach followed days of heavy rain and flooding that inundated communities, forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people and forced numerous rescues across western Washington state.
