Hanover (dpa) – A Christmas tree on his shoulder, a friendly look into the camera: His wife Soyeon Schröder-Kim (55) published a photo of former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (81) buying a Christmas tree on Instagram. “Purely our tradition: Also this year – successful search for the perfect Christmas tree!” she wrote on the social network Instagram. She also wrote the word “Christmas tree” in Korean. “Bild” had previously reported on it.
At the beginning of the year it became known that Schröder had undergone clinical treatment for burnout. According to his treating doctor, he was suffering from “typical burnout syndrome with signs of profound exhaustion and a severe lack of energy.”
The former chancellor has been criticized for years because of his long-standing friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his work for Russian energy companies.
