School Funding: $1M Grants, K-12 & More

RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ) – The Powerball draw on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, had multiple winners in the Commonwealth despite one lucky winner in Arkansas, according to the Virginia Lottery.

According to VA Lottery officials, the winners included:

  • A $1 million dollar winning ticket bought online.
  • A $100,000 winning ticket purchased at a Wawa in Spotsylvania County.
  • Two $50,000 winning tickets purchased at a:
  • K-12 Schools in VA profiting an estimated $33.5 million in sales through 46 draws.

The winning numbers in the Christmas Eve draw were: 4-25-31-52-59, and the Powerball number was 19.

The Jackpot will go back to $20 million for the next draw on Saturday, December 27, according to the VA Lottery.

Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Prizes range from $2 up to the jackpot.

Officials say the odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 25. Players must be at least 18 years old to play Virginia Lottery games.

By law, all profits from sales of tickets in the state lottery go to Commonwealth K-12 education.

In the fiscal year 2025, officials say the Lottery raised more than $901 million for K-12 education, making up approximately ten percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
