The cancellation of *Scalebound*, an action game in advancement by PlatinumGames and backed by Microsoft, remains a significant disappointment for many gamers. while hopes for a revival persist, the game’s future remains uncertain.

Hideki Kamiya, former head of platinumgames and now leading Clovers Inc., recently discussed the project’s fate. In an interview wiht VGC, Kamiya suggested that a Japanese publisher might have led to a different outcome for *Scalebound*.

Kamiya stated: “I do think things will be different. I’m not saying that if it was a Japanese publisher the game would have been done and released, but I think the process itself would have been different.”

He elaborated on the potential differences in approach, noting, “Japanese companies tend to be more open to new challenges, and I think the dialog will be more positive, like, ‘Okay, so how should we deal with this together?’ Personally, overseas publishers seem to be more eager to see the finished product as soon as possible. If it were Japanese publishers, I think they might give us more room.”

Despite these reflections, Kamiya took responsibility for the game’s failure. “We take this particular title as an example, but I don’t want any misunderstandings – *Scalebound’s* failure is ultimately PlatinumGames’ responsibility, including me as a director” [[3]].

Kamiya expressed hope that his experience working with overseas publishers would inform future collaborations, allowing him to “find ways to play to the strengths of both parties.”

“Scalebound’s failure is ultimately PlatinumGames’ responsibility, including me as a director.”
