The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) placed Santa Catarina, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul on red alert of great danger for storms, which could cause rain with volumes greater than 100 millimeters per day this Friday (12). In Santa Catarina, the Far West will be the only region affected, according to Inmet’s forecast.

In Paraná, the Northwest and Southwest, as well as the West and Center-South, can be affected by storm. The Southwest of Mato Grosso do Sul will be the affected region in the Central-West state.
What does the red alert mean?

According to the Inmet, the red alert indicates rain exceeding 60 millimeters per hour or volumes greater than 100 millimeters per day, with winds exceeding 100 km/h and hail.
Inmet indicates that there is a great risk of damage to buildings, electricity cuts, damage to plantations, falling trees, flooding and traffic disruptions.
How many municipalities could be affected?
In total, 113 municipalities could be affected by the storm, with 14 being in Santa Catarina.

After the passage of an extratropical cyclone that formed in Rio Grande do Sul and caused damage in Santa Catarina at the beginning of the week, with three confirmed deaths in the municipality of Palhoça, in Greater Florianópolis, the State of Santa Catarina continues with a “combo” of meteorological alerts, all indicating danger for storms at different levels, according to the region of the State.
In addition to the red alert in the Far West, there is an orange alert, with heavy rain of 50 to 100 millimeters per day from the West to the Plateaus, which starts on Thursday night (11). Likewise, on the Coast, South, North, and Serra, the alert is yellow, with a potential danger of rain of up to 50 millimeters and winds of up to 60 km/h.
