As the heating season winds down in AUSTRIA, a new price comparison highlights the continued cost-effectiveness of wood pellets compared to traditional fossil fuels. The latest survey from industry association prepellet AUSTRIA reveals that wood pellets maintain a considerable price advantage over heating oil and natural gas, even with recent price declines in the fossil fuel sector.

Notable Savings with Wood Pellets

The May survey indicates that the price of pellets has decreased by 1.7% compared to the previous month, with a ton of loose pellets costing €299.08. In contrast, heating oil prices are 68% higher, and natural gas is a staggering 124% more expensive. This translates to substantial savings for households using wood pellets, with potential savings of €1,229 per heating season compared to oil heating and up to €2,240 compared to gas heating.

“Pellets cost significantly less than heating oil or natural gas and they cause 98 percent less CO2 emissions compared to fossil fuels,” says Doris Stiksl, Managing Director of propellets Austria.
