Activists called “Robin des Ruelles” and dressed as Santa Claus robbed a Montreal supermarket on Monday, December 15, to redistribute food to the city’s most deprived. Because “hunger justifies the means” according to them.



A Robin Hood-style Santa burglary. This is the funny scene witnessed by customers at a supermarket in Montreal, Canada, on Monday, December 15, reports CBC News. In the images, we see three people dressed as Santa Claus rush into the store, accompanied by numerous hooded elves, all determined to leave with bags of food without paying for them.

Amount of this Christmas loot: 3,000 Canadian dollars, or approximately 1,850 euros. The burglars are quickly identified. This is a militant group called “Robin des Ruelles”, linked to the River Uprising movement.





“Hunger justifies the means”

Activists who did not try to hide, since they claimed their crime on social networks, Instagram in the lead. In their press release, entitled “Hunger justifies the means”, they explain that they wanted to redistribute the stolen food to poor people.

Before attacking the Métro group, owner of the stolen store, accused of “suffocating the population, to siphon off as much money as possible, simply because they can”.


No arrests

A police investigation has been opened but no arrests have been made at this stage. Most of the food was found at the foot of a tree in the city, left there voluntarily by the activists.
