Santa Ana Winds & Cold Weather – San Diego Forecast

by Archynetys News Desk

The Santa Ana winds will continue to pick up tonight and will likely peak later tonight or during the early morning hours. Most gusts will be between 35 and 45 mph, but we have already seen a couple of isolated gusts of 60 to 70 mph. Weaker Santa Ana winds could last through the weekend and possibly even into Monday. A WIND ADVISORY remains in place for inland valleys and mountains until 1pm on Sunday.

It is also very dry this afternoon, with relative humidity as low as 10%, even in some coastal communities. Therefore, although recent rain has helped increase fuel moisture levels, dry and windy conditions will continue to create an elevated fire risk over the weekend.

This cold, dry air from the desert, along with clear skies and longer nights, is also the perfect combination for cold mornings. The San Diego Mountains reached a temperature of 23°F this morning. Even several coastal areas have dropped to 30°F. Another cold dawn is expected on Saturday, but perhaps not as cold as Friday.

Daytime high temperatures will continue to rise through the middle of next week, when highs will reach the mid-80s inland.

After a historically rainy start to the year, we will have a little respite for now. There is no rain forecast in the next ten days.
