San Diego Highway Closure: New Mega Shutdown Announced

All southbound lanes of I-5 will be closed from Route 52 to Mission Bay Drive in northern San Diego County for 56 hours. The closure will begin on November 7 at 9:00 p.m. and will end on November 10 at 5:00 a.m., Caltrans reported.

Chula Vista, California.- All lanes in southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) will be closed from State Route 52 to the Mission Bay Drive ramp north of San Diego County 56 hours as part of a new mega closure.

The authorities of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) reported this Monday that access will be closed to all motorists in the aforementioned area. from 9:00 p.m. on November 7, until 5:00 a.m. on November 10.

This is the fourth mega closure of this type to carry out improvement works and the replacement of concrete as part of the I-5 Asset Management Project.

During the time of the closure, motorists traveling southbound are advised to take the interstate 805 (I-805) in Sorrento Valley, and then connect to the state route 163 (SR-163), and then take the interstate 8 (I-8) and then connect to I-5.

Motorists too will be able to exit the southbound lanes of I-5 at the Genesse Avenue ramp, and then they can take La Jolla Village Drive and Nobel Drive.

Las I-5 on and off ramps at Gilman Drive and La Jolla Village Drive will be closedand everyone traveling beyond Gilman Drive southbound will be detoured to State Route 52 (SR-52) eastbound.

Caltrans officials stressed that this effort focuses on preserving existing infrastructure, improving safety, and modernizing the highway to meet current and future transportation needs.

The total cost of the project is 113,745,800 dollars and is part of a budget of 1.6 billion dollars for works in San Diego County.
