Samsung Mixed Reality Headset: Launch Date Revealed

Samsung, the South Korean technology giant, has officially announced the date of one of its most anticipated events of the year. This time, the focus will not be on the usual smartphones or smartwatches, but rather on its entry into the promising mixed reality market.

The alliance with Google and Qualcomm

Samsung is preparing to unveil one of the most ambitious products in its recent history, confirming an event that promises to capture the attention of all technology enthusiasts. This Galaxy Event will not be the stage for a new cell phone, watch or laptop; the South Korean company is ready to dive into the universe of mixed reality.

The protagonist is "Project Moohan", which promises to be the most serious competitor to the Apple Vision Pro to date.

Samsung's vision for this segment is similar to Apple's, but is based on a completely different software base. Project Moohan has two strong partners who will be crucial to its success: a Qualcomm e a Google. The second will be responsible for integrating the Android XR operating system into the brand's new device.

The official date for the presentation has already been set: October 21, 2025. The event format will be exclusively online, where all details of the equipment will be revealed. However, it is almost certain that the name "Project Moohan" will not be the commercial one; predictions point to Samsung launching it as the Galaxy XR, integrating it into its well-known ecosystem.

Android XR: Samsung's trump card against Apple Vision Pro

The Samsung Galaxy XR, or Project Moohan, which has already appeared in several leaks, presents itself as a mixed reality headset. This will allow the user to visualize an interface in virtual reality, whilst maintaining visual contact with the surrounding environment, thanks to a complex system of cameras and sensors.

The real differentiating element of the product is Android XR. Google introduced this software a few months ago as its gateway to the world of mixed reality. Its goal is to replicate the success of the mobile operating system: convince manufacturers to adopt Android XR as the brain of their AR/VR products, instead of developing their own systems.

The big advantage lies in an almost perfect integration with cell phones, everyday applications and an ecosystem that is familiar to most users. One of the biggest obstacles to the Apple Vision Pro was the reduced immersive compatibility with third-party applications, something that the open nature of Android XR could mitigate from the start.

Despite the imminent presentation, there are still several open questions. It is not clear how dependent the device will be on a smartphone or what its power system will be like. Its price is also a mystery; although Samsung is often more affordable than the Californian company, in this type of innovative products this difference may not occur.

It is important to highlight that, even with an imminent announcement, it may be necessary to wait a long time to purchase the device. Samsung has been following this marketing strategy, so it is very likely that Project Moohan, or Galaxy XR, will only hit stores in mid-2026.
