In today’s fast-paced world, achieving quality sleep has become a nightly competition. For many, including myself, ensuring a good night’s rest is akin to a game, much like the classic Donkey Kong Jr or the more recent hit Returnal. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra has transformed my approach to sleep, making it a fun yet challenging endeavor.

Sleeping with the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra: Nighttime Entertainment

The Galaxy Watch Ultra has a unique ability to turn sleep into a personal esport event. While its influentially addictive gameplay loop may frustrate some, the benefits for overall health and productivity are undeniable. Struggling with insomnia, optimizing my sleep quality has been instrumental in enhancing my daily performance.

The Downside: Bulkiness

Despite its numerous features, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is a large, hearty watch with a vibrant Super AMOLED display, making it less comfortable for bedtime. Designed for rugged outdoor activities, its casing and size are not ideal for relaxation and laying down. It’s a trade-off, especially since the vibrant display can be disturbing if glanced at during the night.

The accompanying bright orange Marine band is designed for durability and quick drainage, essential for surfing but not relaxing. For better comfort, I’m considering swapping it out for a PeakForm band, which seems more suitable for wear during sleep.

Sleep Tracking: A Wealth of Data

The following morning brings an avalanche of data regarding the previous night’s sleep. Information on sleep stages, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature, heart rate, and respiratory rate are compiled into a comprehensive Sleep Score. This data aids in evaluating sleep time, physical recovery, restfulness, and mental recovery.

Snoring data can also be recorded if the phone is plugged in, complete with potentially embarrassing recordings. Although I couldn’t get the sleep apnea feature to work, it can be useful for those who do.

Transforming Sleep into an Achievement

I recently took up sleep tracking and found it remarkably transformative. With a healthier diet, regular exercise, and weight loss, I focused on improving my sleep patterns. Now, a higher Sleep Score keeps me motivated to adhere to a better sleep schedule.

Using this data, I realized the impact of caffeine on my sleep patterns and gradually reduced my evening caffeine intake. The Energy Score, which incorporates physical and sleep data, has also been a motivating factor. Though it’s hard to give up energy drinks, I’m willing to make sacrifices to improve my sleep quality.

Challenges and Recommendations

The Galaxy Watch Ultra lacks a physical rotating bezel and suffers from battery life issues, lasting only a day and a half in my experience. The charging process is also slow. Despite these drawbacks, the benefits in terms of health tracking outweigh the negatives.

Final Thoughts

Fuelled by friendly competition with myself, I aim to surpass a Sleep Score of 97 tonight. The Galaxy Watch Ultra has transformed my relationship with sleep, making it as exciting as a late-night game of Returnal. I encourage you to give it a try and join the sleep tracking revolution.
