Samsung Unveils Future of Smart Homes: Galactic AI Powers Personalized Experiences
On January 23 in San Jose, California, Samsung hosted the Galaxy Tech Forums, offering deep insights into its AI innovations spanning four key areas: Sustainability, Health AI, Galaxy AI, and Home AI. The Home AI session was especially noteworthy for its comprehensive look at Samsung’s vision for next-generation smart homes.
Samsung is reimagining smart homes with Home AI, aiming to deliver a highly personalized experience that aligns with user needs across devices and contexts.

Smart UI as the Gateway to Home AI
The user interface (UI) plays a pivotal role in Home AI, acting as a bridge between users and their devices, including mobile phones, TVs, and home appliances.

According to Patrick Chomet, Mobile Strategy Advisor at Samsung, UI has evolved with the advent of artificial intelligence, enabling users to interact naturally through gestures, voice, and text.
“Users no longer need to understand how to operate devices. Instead, the device should understand the user’s intent,” Chomet added.

Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings Team at Samsung, discussed new features of SmartThings such as Quick Remote, 3D Map View, and Home Insight.
“Quick Remote lets users control their TVs via a connected Samsung Galaxy smartphone. 3D Map View manages the entire home and monitors energy consumption, while Home Insight provides timely reports and personalized recommendations,” Jung explained.
The Role of Platforms and Standardization in Shaping Smart Homes
Carolina Milanesi, CEO of Heart of Tech and President of Creative Strategies, moderated a discussion on integrated AI platforms and industry standards.
“As we expand our AI platform across applications and devices, we aim to optimize the user experience,” Chomet stated.

Jung highlighted that the SmartThings platform, established over a decade, is pivotal for creating an intelligent home environment.
“A consistent and connected AI platform allows users to enjoy seamless convenience, regardless of location,” she said.

Tobin Richardson, President and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), underscored the importance of industry standards for smart home devices.
“Seamless connectivity and interoperability are crucial for AI innovation. The Matter standard facilitates device communication and enhances trust,” Richardson said.
A More Personalized, Secure Smart Home
Chomet addressed the challenge of delivering personalized experiences in shared living spaces.
“AI technology can adapt to individual users’ needs, focusing on intent and context,” he explained.

Jung shared examples of Samsung’s collaborative efforts between Samsung Health and SmartThings to provide tailored health experiences.
For instance, SmartThings can optimize users’ sleep environments by adjusting temperature and humidity based on sleep patterns.

Security was another crucial topic.
“Security is paramount. Knox Matrix and Knox Vault protect the smart home ecosystem and hardware, ensuring users enjoy secure smart living experiences,” Jung emphasized.
Richardson agreed, noting the importance of security and privacy in smart homes.
“Matter, our next-generation standard, prioritizes security, offering users a level of trust they can rely on,” he said.
