Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: More RAM for AI, But Old Hardware?
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, rumored to launch early next year, might be getting a RAM boost. Leaked information suggests up to 16GB of RAM across three storage options: 12GB/256GB, 16GB/512GB, and 16GB/1TB. This increase from the S24 Ultra’s 12GB is likely linked to Samsung’s investing in AI capabilities.
Apple’s Move and AI on Galaxy
Apple recently denied AI features to older iPhones with less than 8GB of RAM, citing a need for sufficient memory to run Apple Intelligence. This suggests a trend towards demanding RAM requirements for sophisticated AI functionality. Samsung’s decision to bump up the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s RAM aligns with this trend, hinting at enhanced AI features within the "Galaxy AI" suite.
Interestingly, the inclusion of a 12GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage raises questions. Either this configuration will have a less powerful AI experience, or the increased RAM serves a different purpose, potentially beyond AI.
S25 Ultra: Evolutionary, Not Revolutionary?
Rumors also suggest the S25 Ultra might be more of an evolutionary step than a revolutionary one. The Snapdragon 8 Elite processor is the most notable upgrade, while the battery and display might remain unchanged.
Even leaked images and videos indicate a shift towards rounded edges, replacing the sharp edges of its predecessors.
Is This a Mediocre Generation?
With potentially similar hardware to the S24 Ultra, Samsung risks joining Apple in a relatively underwhelming generation of smartphones.
