by drbyos

As AI advances rapidly, AI-enabled appliances are increasingly integrated into everyday life, reducing the burden of housework and improving convenience. Since officially launching its Bespoke AI line last year, Samsung Electronics is tripling its top AI appliance models by 2025, offering more choice to consumers.[1].

The company’s ultimate goal is to completely eliminate household chores through AI-enabled appliances capable of making decisions and operating autonomously.

At the forefront of this vision is Bespoke AI, one of the four core values of Samsung’s Digital Appliances (DA) business. Bespoke AI refers to a new category of AI home appliances that understand users and act independently to provide personalized experiences. With unique solutions like Screens, Bixby and Vision, Samsung is redefining what AI-enabled home appliances can offer.

To explore the direction, goals and consumer benefits of Bespoke AI, Samsung Newsroom spoke with Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D Team of Samsung Electronics’ Digital Appliances (DA) business, in the first interview of a four-part series.

Reducing tasks with Bespoke AI, powered by Screens, Bixby and Vision

What is the core value that Bespoke AI seeks to deliver?

Bespoke AI refers to AI-enabled appliances that provide truly personalized experiences based on a deep understanding of each user’s lifestyle and needs. It is designed for users looking for more ease, comfort and convenience in their daily lives. Samsung’s product development is focused on advancing the connection between AI and devices so that home appliances can understand users and act on their behalf, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero housework.

What makes you believe that Bespoke AI can significantly reduce household chores?

Bespoke AI is based on three fundamental technologies: Screens, Bixby and Vision — and it is this combination that enables completely new experiences in the home.

  • In products such as the Bespoke AI Family Hub, hybrid refrigerators, washing machines, dryers and kitchen devices, screens allow users to check and control functions intuitively, improving convenience and accessibility. They also serve as control centers for the entire home through SmartThings.
  • Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant, is being applied across the entire line Bespake. Its expanded presence allows you to control appliances with just your voice, offering a hands-free experience that reduces barriers to use.
  • Vision technology is integrated into products such as the Family Hub refrigerator, 9-inch display refrigerator, Bespoke AI Steam vacuum cleaner, and ovens. These appliances can recognize objects on their own to assist with household tasks, representing a clear step towards reducing the burden of home maintenance.

Samsung is also expanding Wi-Fi connectivity across its product portfolio to enable more advanced connected features. For example, 91% of Bespoke Four-Door (FDR) refrigerators sold globally are now Wi-Fi compatible[2].

Samsung has already expanded its line of AI-enabled appliances by more than three times what it was last year — and is expected to maintain strong growth through 2026.

AI that takes care of cooking and washing — even responding to the voice of each family member

What are the unique advantages of Bixby on Bespoke AI appliances over other products?

Bixby is enhanced with a large language model (LLM) tailored for home appliances, allowing users to interact naturally with them using conversational commands.

Voice ID, introduced this year, takes personalization to a new level. In shared homes, recognize who is speaking and adjust responses accordingly[3]. For example, if a user asks “What’s my calendar?”, Bixby will show their calendar, not someone else’s.

Bixby is also tightly integrated with hardware features across Samsung’s entire line of home appliances, making control more seamless. With the pioneering innovation of no-wake word voice control, users can operate home appliances such as refrigerators or washing machines without first saying “Hi Bixby.”[4]. Combined with features like Auto Open Doorusers can simply say, “Open the left (right) refrigerator door” for a truly seamless experience.

Can you explain more specifically what kind of benefits Bespoke AI brings to daily life?

Bespoke AI is designed to recognize and take care of everyday tasks that many people find tedious, difficult or time-consuming. With advanced AI capabilities, tasks that previously required manual effort and constant user supervision can now be handled automatically, marking a significant change in the way household chores are managed.

For example, the Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator is equipped with AI Vision Insidewhich automatically identifies ingredients as they are placed inside. It helps manage food inventory and even recommends recipes based on available items. During meal preparation, you can also send optimal settings to connected kitchen appliances, minimizing inconvenience and improving the cooking experience. The system is evolving to incorporate wellness insights, helping users make healthier choices through connected dining experiences.

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, an all-in-one washer and dryer, uses features like AI Opti Wash & Dry to detect fabric type, soil level and load weight[5]. It then automatically dispenses the correct amount of detergent and selects the most appropriate washing and drying cycles, managing the entire process from start to finish.

Even noise and vibration are automatically controlled by AI Vibration Reduction Technology[6], for a quieter washing experience. These are the tasks that, before Bespoke AI appliances, required constant attention and manual effort.

Smarter AI appliances that anticipate and act on their own

What is the future direction of Samsung’s AI home appliances?

Samsung is evolving the Bespoke AI experience so that home appliances not only understand users and their home environments, but also autonomously take action based on each situation. The goal is to allow individuals and families to spend more time on what really matters, reducing the time and energy spent on household tasks.

Looking ahead, Samsung plans to expand the Bespoke AI experience beyond the home to other areas, such as buildings, vehicles and even ships — creating smarter, more interconnected environments across multiple industries. To realize this vision, Samsung is working closely with domestic and global partners on hardware, software and services.

In the next interview in this series, Samsung Newsroom will highlight the second core value of its home appliances: seamless connectivity through SmartThings.
