Crews contain a wildfire in Sam Houston National Forest, but authorities warn of ongoing suppression efforts. Public safety is prioritized, with some trails closed.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — Crews are continuing to work a wildfire in the Sam Houston National Forest in northwest Montgomery County, though officials say the fire is now contained.

Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said the fire broke out near FM 1375 and FM 149. The U.S. Forest Service said the fire, known as Trailhead 3, has grown to approximately 75 acres.

Officials said a dozer line was established around the fire, and there was no threat to the surrounding area.

“Aerial recon has been completed, and both aerial bucket drops and ground crews are working to strengthen containment lines,” the U.S. Forest Service said. “Firefighter and public safety remain the top priority.”

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management were on scene, coordinating the response with the Forest Service.

Judge Keough previously said the fire was not a prescribed burn, and the cause remains under investigation. Smoke may still be visible from nearby roads.
