With the Salzburg state government’s decision to pay out the nursing bonus by the end of June 2026, the state is taking a step towards relieving the burden on its nursing staff. The threatened loss of salary from January could be averted. For many employees in the care and health sector, this means that a loss of real wages has been averted for the time being.
“The loss of salary that would have occurred for many nursing staff in January is now off the table,” says Reinhard Waldhör, federal chairman of the GÖD health union. “This gives those responsible in the state of Salzburg the opportunity to approach each other after disarming the words and work out further viable solutions on an equal footing!”
However, this withdrawal is only a first step, as the care bonus will initially only last until June 2026. The GÖD health union also expressly points out that many structural problems in care remain unresolved. Quick and sustained discussions about fair working conditions, safe personnel standards and long-term salary prospects are the order of the day.
That’s why the GÖD health union calls on everyone involved in the state of Salzburg: “Use the coming months to make binding agreements that will ensure long-term care provision! The care sector – and the people who take on responsibility in it on a daily basis – deserve more than temporary compromises.”
