The Salmon Council and NGO Canales signed a collaboration agreement to start a work agenda for 2026, with a focus on strengthening technical-professional education linked to aquaculture, particularly in the southern regions.

With this, a framework is established to generate greater instances of linkage with the industry, promoting internships, technical visits, field activities with different member companies of the Salmon Council, thus bringing technical-professional training closer to the standards, skills and real opportunities of Chilean salmon farming.

Paula Arriet, Executive Director of NGO Canales, and on behalf of the Salmon Council, Ángela Saavedra, regional director of Los Lagos, and Rolf Traeger, regional director of Aysén, participated in the event.

Ángela Saavedra pointed out that “this alliance opens concrete opportunities for those who are in the classrooms today and who tomorrow will be protagonists of one of the most strategic activities for the south of Chile, such as salmon farming. Signing this agreement in the Los Lagos region reinforces our union commitment to technical-professional education connected to what the industry is today, strengthening the formation of human capital. and, above all, the sustainable development of the southern southern regions.”

Rolf Traeger highlighted that “this agreement opens a work route for the technical-professional establishments of Aysén linked to salmon farming, in a region where the activity represents close to 30% of the regional GDP. Advancing a sustained articulation between technical-professional education and salmon farming is key to the sustainable development of the territories, because it allows the delivery of knowledge and tools to teachers and training teams in the field, strengthening the relevance of high schools and their connection with real opportunities for the industry.”

For her part, Paula Arriet, Executive Director of NGO Canales, pointed out that “this agreement with the Salmon Council consolidates a strategic alliance to strengthen technical-professional education linked to aquaculture, especially in the regions of Los Lagos and Aysén. It allows us to advance in instances of teacher training, links with the industry and development of joint initiatives that directly contribute to the relevance of training and territorial development.”

With this agreement, the Salmon Council and NGO Canales advance a working relationship that seeks to enhance human capital for the southern south, connecting technical-professional education with the productive world and promoting more development opportunities for new generations.
