Salah Nations Cup Record: How Long Will It Last?

by Archynetys Sports Desk

Egyptian international star Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian national team player, has a golden opportunity if he is present in the upcoming 2027 African Cup of Nations.

The Egyptian national team had contented itself with occupying fourth place in the 2025 African Nations Championship, after losing to the Nigerian national team on penalties (4-2).

In the current edition of the African Cup of Nations, Salah scored 4 goals against: Zimbabwe, South Africa, Benin, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Mohamed Salah raised his tally of goals in the tournament to only 11 goals, after participating in the versions: “2017, 2021, 2023, 2025.”

In addition to winning the first title in the African Cup of Nations, the Egyptian international star is awaiting the next edition in 2027, which will be held in Guinea, Tanzania, and Uganda, and the 2028 edition for a historic achievement that may not be repeated in the history of Egyptian players.

Mohamed Salah currently has 11 goals in the African Cup of Nations, and is equal in number of goals with: Hossam Hassan, Cameroonian Patrick Mboma, and Ivorian Didier Drogba.

Salah is preceded in the number of goals scored in the history of African nations by:

1- Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon) with 18 goals.

2- Laurent Boco (Côte d’Ivoire) with 14 goals.

3- Rashidi Yekini (Nigeria), with 13 goals.

4- Hassan El Shazly (Egypt), with 12 goals.

If Mohamed Salah seeks to win the continental title first, and also focus on the title of the all-time top scorer, which is now very close, given that he is only missing 7 goals, equal to Eto’o, and 8 goals to surpass him and then become the all-time top scorer in the tournament.

It seems that this number of goals is not far off, given that Mohamed Salah, currently 33 years old, can participate in the next two editions before they are held every 4 years after that.
